JOHANNES SIVERTSEN
Selected works
Johannes Sivertsen explores the role of painting in examining how our gaze is shaped by the past and by the visual culture of the present. He draws on traditional artistic means, particularly the language of classical oil painting, to stage narratives, fictions, and other cultural constructs that shape the way we see the world. Through a naturalistic painting process, he points to the impossibility of seeing the world objectively, suggesting instead that a painting reflects the interpretations through which we perceive it.
Johannes Sivertsen (b. 1984 in Paris) graduated from the Funen Art Academy in 2014. He currently lives and works in France, where he is teaching at the Académie des Sciences, Arts et Belles-Lettres de Caen in Normandy. Sivertsen has presented his work in Europe and the US, e.g. at MO.CO (FR), Galerie Gilles Drouault (FR), SPECTA GAllery (DK), Den Frie Exhibition(DK), and Overgaden Institute of Contemporary Art (DK).
