With the exhibition Naturally, Camilla Thorup presents a series of new ceramic works that revolve around how we as humans relate to nature. The works examine how we are both fascinated by and try to control the nature around us.

In the gallery’s Viewing Room, we encounter a hare lying still on the table with open eyes, mushrooms growing from the wall, and reliefs with hands holding animals. The motifs are recognizable, but set in unfamiliar settings, where the ambiguity creates both touching and unsettling moods. Is the hand holding the bird to protect it or is it to control it? Is the hare resting, or is it about to take it’s last breath?

Thorup questions the way we relate to and co-exist (or don’t co-exist) with nature. Where animals and plants adapt to our environment and imprint, we as humans seem to want to control where and how nature can unfold. Naturally is an investigation of this balance — and imbalance — between attraction and control.

Med udstillingen Naturligt præsenterer Camilla Thorup en række nye keramiske værker, der kredser om menneskets forhold til naturen. Værkerne undersøger, hvordan vi som mennesker både fascineres af og forsøger at kontrollere naturen omkring os.

I galleriets Viewing Room møder vi en hare der ligger stille på bordet med åbne øjne, svampe der vokser ud af væggen, og relieffer med hænder, der holder dyr. Motiverne er genkendelige, men sat i uvante rammer, hvor tvetydigheden skaber både rørende og urovækkende stemninger. Er hånden beskyttende eller kontrollerende? Hviler haren, eller er den ved at udånde?

Thorup stiller spørgsmål til vores natursyn og sameksistens med naturen. Hvor dyr og vækster tilpasser sig vores miljø og aftryk, synes vi som mennesker at ville styre, hvor og hvordan naturen må udfolde sig. Naturligt er en undersøgelse af denne balance — og ubalance — mellem tiltrækning og kontrol.
