SPECTA starts 2022 with Anomaly, the gallery’s first solo exhibition by Jakob Hunosøe. In a new series of photos, Jakob Hunosøe lifts everyday objects like a knife, a glass or a ball into what seem to be arrangements filled with mysteries. Through Jakob Hunosøe’s lens the ordinary becomes a dizzying illusion, and it seems disturbing and incomprehensible when we learn, that the photos ARE indeed a documentation of reality.

The artworks in the exhibition Anomaly are made during the Covid-19 pandemic, including two lockdowns in Denmark. Through many years Hunosøe has worked with everyday objects and this workflow has fitted quite well in the unprecedented reality we found ourselves in. It gave the artist much opportunity to revisit and sense the potential in the objects in his immediate surroundings - in the living room, in the kitchen or in the hall. Thus, the works are not pretending to be part of a noisy party but are perhaps more influenced by the disturbing news flow, which was the only thing which seemed to penetrate the closed everyday life. When an ordinary knife seems to hover and send it’s shadow onto the table or when objects appear rather transparent, seemingly as their own ghosts, the feeling of nothing being as it seems is very present. As if something is going on, which we cannot control.

The title of the exhibition, Anomaly, points to a shift or a deviation from what is normal, the general focus point in Jakob Hunosøe’s photos. Immediately we recognize the objects in the photos, and they seem simple - however, we soon realize that something is not quite right, it is as if a small deviation has found its way into the images.
Jakob Hunosøe makes his photos with an analogue camera, in daylight and they are not digitally modified or otherwise manipulated afterwards. Everything we see in his photos are images of a real situation.

Jakob Hunosøe (b 1975/DK) lives and works in Copenhagen. He is educated at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 2004. In SPECTA, we have previously presented works by Jakob Hunosøe in our Viewing room and as part of group exhibitions and over the years he has exhibited solo and in group constellations e.g. at Peter Lav Gallery, Trane exhibition, Holstebro Museum of Art, Rønnebæksholm and RØM.
